A 500m mesh Digital Elevation Model of a 120x120 km area around Paranal was built in 1997 to serve as an input to the MESO-NH mesoscale non-hydrostatic meteorological model developped by CNRM at Meteo-France Toulouse.

MM5, a public domain model also gave promising results (credit: http://hokukea.soest.hawaii.edu/forecast/mko/ ) when compared to SCIDAR profiles recorded at Mauna Kea Observatory. It is currently used at ESO to understand the origin of bad seeing events in the Paranal area.
