2011-05-18 =========== In response to the ticket issued today (see attached) about problem with ISAAC detector I checked the data from previous nights (and daytime calibrations). Here is a quick report: Checking data from 2011-05-17/18 night ------------------------------------- So far (~1 pm local Garching time) only LW observations Checking data from 2011-05-16/17 night ------------------------------------- ISAAC.2011-05-17T06:09:17.083.fits SP_FLAT OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T06:11:07.659.fits '' OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T06:52:24.524.fits '' OK Random check on the science data (SW spectroscopy only) shows no apparent problem ISAAC.2011-05-17T10:35:05.912.fits IM_DARK (first SW daytime) OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T10:37:23.896.fits IM_DARK (first SW daytime) OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T10:39:41.882.fits IM_DARK (first SW daytime) OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T10:42:04.772.fits IM_DARK (daytime) OK ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:04:50.470.fits IM_DARK (daytime) full, but strange bright ray-like structure in the upper-left corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:15:31.304.fits IM_DARK (daytime) full, but strange bright ray-like structure in the upper-left corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:26:12.097.fits IM_DARK (daytime) full, but strange bright ray-like structure in the upper-left corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:36:59.686.fits IM_DARK full, but some ray-like structure in the upper-left corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:40:54.639.fits IM_DARK full, but some ray-like structure in the upper-left corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T11:42:58.914.fits IM_DARK full, but some ray-like structure in the upper-left (UL) corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T12:06:05.967.fits IM_DARK full, but some ray-like structure in the upper-left (UL) corner ISAAC.2011-05-17T12:18:38.671.fits SLIT_IMG BAD, whole UL quadrant missing; bright sources at the edges ISAAC.2011-05-17T12:20:33.733.fits SP_FLAT (daytime) BAD ISAAC.2011-05-17T12:32:30.942.fits SP_ARC (daytime) BAD Checking data from 2011-05-15/16 night ------------------------------------- ISAAC.2011-05-16T20:29:27.592.fits SLIT_IMG OK ISAAC.2011-05-16T20:33:03.333.fits SW_CHECK_FLAT OK It looks like the first case when the signal in the whole upper-left (UL) quadrant of the SW array was lost happened at around 011-05-17T12:18, i.e. during day-time calibrations of previous night, when observations were switched from darks to slit image. It was proceeded by appearance of a strange ray-like structure in the UL corner. We are still waiting for the full set of the frames from last night to be transferred here, to Garching. Once they arrive I will check them too. ################################################################ Entry-Id : USD-35935 Email Address : melipal@eso.org Status : Open First Name : Fernando Last Name : Selman Priority : 3 Short-Description : ISAAC SW detector woes Problem Description : 05/18/11 00:58:32 esoarspl Dear ISAAC QC scientist, This morning, at approxinately 08AM chile time, the SW Hawaii detector of ISAAC showed 0 signal in one of the quadrants. We could not complete the day calibrations. It appears to be a serious problem. Although the problem became obvious this morning we are not sure if it was present, in a more subtle form before. Please check carefully the data quality of the last few nights to make sure that they have not been affected. Thanks! Fernando J.
