XSHOOTER Pipeline:
Recipe for Spectrophotometric Standard Stars Reduction

Disclaimer: The information given here refers to the use of this recipe during QC processing. For more details see the pipeline manual at the pipelines page.

  • recipe name:xsh_respon_slit_offset/xsh_respon_slit_nod
  • input raw frames: STD_FLUX_SLIT_<type>_<arm> (type = NOD/OFFSET, arm = UVB/VIS/NIR), SKY_SLIT_<arm> (for OFFSET data only, arm = UVB/VIS/NIR)
Purpose: Determines the response curve and instrument efficiency

Description: First the observations are processed like SCIENCE data observed in the same mode (xsh_scired_slit_nod and xsh_scired_slit_offset). The response is computed by dividing the tabulated (and properly rebinned) flux of the standard star by the 1D extracted spectrum of the standard star, normalized to 1 sec, corrected for atmospheric extinction and converted from ADU to electrons. Regions of high absorption (VIS,NIR) are windowed. with linear interpolation of the response curve across these regions. In order to smooth possible residual local discontinuities in the response profile a running median filter over 3 sampling bins is applied to the result.
