From: Pierre Cox , Nabila Aghanim Subject: Workshop on the SZ Effect & ALMA: first annoucement Dear Colleagues, In the context of the European network RadioNet and of the ALMA project, we are organizing a workshop with the title 'SZ Effect and ALMA'. The workshop will be held on April 7 and 8, 2005 at the Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale in Orsay (Paris area), France. The format of the workshop will allow for open discussions around a few key presentations and the expected attendance will be about 50 participants. We would like to know if you are interested in attending this workshop. Also if you would like to contribute with a short presentation related to the workshop topic, could you please inform us. For your information, we have listed below the summary of the aims and the expected outcomes of this workshop, as well as the current list of key presentations. If you are interested, please send a reply mail to both of us as soon as possible. We will keep you further informed about practical details by the end of january. Also could you please circulate this annoucement to those you might think could be interested in attending this workshop and who are not part of this mailing list. Thank you in advance. Looking forward to seeing you in Orsay, we wish you all the best for the New Year 2005. Nabila Aghanim & Pierre Cox ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 'The SZ Effect and ALMA' Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale Universite de Paris-Sud Orsay (France) The aim of this workshop, which will be organized as part of the ALMA Forum in RadioNet, is to gather specialists of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect both with theoretical and observational backgrounds to discuss the status of the field and the current and planned experiments, in order to assess the role of ALMA in SZ studies. The goals of this workshop are: i) to start discussions on what will remain to be done on the SZ effect at the beginning of 2012 when ALMA will be fully operational. ii) to investigate the importance of observations of the SZ effect at high-angular resolution. iii) to define what are the key frequency bands for SZ studies in the mm/submm windows, in particular, are there crucial bands which are not in the baseline project? The workshop will be organized around a few key presentations on the subject and ample time will be devoted to open discussions. It is the wish of the organizers to produce a document based on the presentations and the conclusions of this workshop. This document could serve as a first reference for further considerations in the ALMA project. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ List of key presentations: -------------------------- Monique Arnaud (CEA, Saclay, France) Subject: What do X-rays tell us about clusters?
