Glossary |
| Alcohol | We use either ethanol or iso-propanol for cleaning purposes. |
| Bath cryostat | Dewar to cool CCDs which contains a few liters of liquid nitrogen and can be operated 20 to 50 hours without refilling. |
| CFC | Continuous
Flow Cryostat. Cryostat type which doesn't contain a vessel with liquid nitrogen, but it is cooled with a small amount of continuously passing through of liquid nitrogen. |
| Fiberglass | Epoxy material filled with fibres. |
| PCBs | Printed
Circuit Boards. Electronic boards used for internal cryostat wiring and filtering. |
| Tank | Vessel inside the dewar which contains liquid nitrogen. |
| Ultrasonic bath | Metal box for cleaning instruments in a solvent with ultrasonic waves and heating. |
| VITON O-ring | Look for List of Materials |
| ZIF-Socket | Zero Inforce
Socket. Socket used for CCDs in order not to apply forces to CCD pins. |
| Zeolite | Crystalline porous aluminosilicate, hydrated and with alkali and alkaline-earth metals. It forms a tetrahedral framework. |
