YEAR 2000 Compliance Tests on Control Model for FEB99 Release
An internal VLT Software Release (FEB99) that includes Y2000 compliance
for VLT software has been already installed at Paranal, so that UT1 can be
operated with this baseline for the whole 1999 and beginning 2000.
This Release has been tested on the Control Model by following the strategy
defined in Year 2000 Compliance, Guidelines for VLT Control Software document
(VLT-TRE-ESO -17210-1704) from Bruno Gilli.
Control Model Set-Up Upgrade
- For Test Camera, added 1 LCU (ltatcam), 1 FIERA SUN 2.4/OCT98 (wtcccd)
- For ISAAC, added 2 LCUs (ltcic, ltcccd, 1 SUN 2.5.1 IRACE (wtcdc)
- Set up of a stand alone Time Reference System (GPS Receiver + Time server)
- RTAP Licence for the time periods under test

Upgrade of all CM Workstations Operating System with Y2000 patches recommended by HP and SUN
Gnu tools, Tcl/Tk, RTD and Catlib recompiled on a newly upgraded machine
already on 2000 year. Distribution on all CM Machines
Installation of FEB99 Release on all machines
VCM in stand-alone, isolated from the Network
Check that the system is correctly up and all time synchronization are OK.
Execution of the agreed tests with current time. This create the reference.
Change time to 31/12/1999 22.00
Resync of all machines

Time moved to 28/02/2000 21.30

Results
The first transition 31/12/1999 -> 01/01/2000 happened Friday 5/2/1999
late afternoon. The transition was done with TCS up and tracking.
Just after the midnight few exposures has been taken with the Test Camera.
The system has continued to work over the week-end and the agreed tests has been repeated several time.
On Monday 8/2/1999 (13.00) the time moved to 28/02/2000. The critical
transitions happened on:
28Feb->29Feb 9/2/1999 9.25
29Feb->01Mar 10/2/1999 9.25
After every transition, the set of functional tests were
performed.
No problems related to Y2000 issue have been spotted.
VCM has been left in the future for 4 more
weeks (until the temporary RTAP license has expired) for further test.
