              VLT COMMON SOFTWARE "MAR2002" - OVERVIEW
              ======================================

The MAR2002 release is an external release and it will be distributed
to consortia (CDs with OS, VLTSW sources and manuals)

The release notes for MAR2002 reflect only the 
move from OCT2001 to MAR2002, hence do not give the "complete picture" 
for who is going to upgrade from MAR2001 to MAR2002. 
In such a case, please have a look at the OCT2001 RN also.

When upgrading from MAR2001, some additional OS patches 
have to been installed. These patches will be distributed with 
the OS and VLTSW CDs.

* DISCLAIMER
  Linux is one of the platforms on which the MAR2002 VLT Common SW (based 
  on CCS-lite) can be installed and used.

  It should be noted that currently the only official and fully 
  validated platform for INS and TCS software is HP-UX 10.20/11.00. 
  It is required to have an explicit agreement with ESO to use anything
  else in any official project.


Features 

1. HP-UX 10.20: no major changes. Full CCS will run 
   on this platform only.

2. CCSLite will be the only version available for SUN 
   and HP-UX 11.00
 
3. The compiler has not changed: we have gcc 2.95.2.

4. tcltk

5. VxWorks Tornado 2.0.2, 
No changes from OCT2001

6. JAVA platform: JDK 1.1.8 + SWING 1.1 
No changes from OCT2001
