Atacama Moon Valley

Named for its similarities to the lunar surface, Valle de la Luna — Moon Valley — is located a short distance from Chajnantor Plateau on which the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is found. Carved by wind and water, the valley provides spectacular natural vistas. The white deposits seen in this particular photo are in fact salt deposits that give the Chilean valley its distinctively lunar feel.
