Bad pixels

In astrophotography, sometimes faults in the camera devices can create strange artefacts on the final image. Here, a series of "cold" pixels has not registered the starlight, leading to the dark line down the middle, while some "hot" pixels have led to the thinner, white lines to the left.

This image will be available in the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre in Garching, Munich.
