Chajnantor plateau, APEX and ALMA AOS

The APEX telescope is at the edge of the 5,100m altitude Chajnantor plateau, together with the ALMA operation site (in construction). The 5,920m Licancabur volcano is towering in the background, and Cerro Chascon is visible to the right. Image taken in December 2005.
