The star formation region Gum 41 in the constellation of Centaurus

This chart shows the location of a cloud of hydrogen and newborn stars called Gum 41 in the large southern constellation of Centaurus (The Centaur). This map shows most of the stars visible to the unaided eye under good conditions and the location of the nebula itself is marked with a red circle. This object is part of the larger Lambda Centauri Nebula. Gum 41 is very faint and was only discovered photographically in the mid-20th century.
