VLT 8.2-m zerodur mirror inspection
The first photo of the inspection of the VLT 8.2-m Zerodur mirror (M1) after arrival. It shows the mirror in its box on December 18, 1997, now within the Mirror Maintenance Building (MMB), and moments after the cover had been removed. During the ensuing careful inspection of the complete mirror surface, no damage was detected.
