Dne 14. března 2013 zavítal na observatoř Paranal v rámci své oficiální návštěvy v Chile dánský korunní princ Frederik se svou manželkou, princeznou Mary. V doprovodu generálního ředitele ESO Tima de Zeeuw měl korunní pár možnost prohlédnout si toto unikátní astronomické zařízení.
