ALMA, le Vaste Réseau (Sub-) Millimétrique de l'Atacama (ALMA pour Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array), implanté aux confins des Andes Chiliennes, a été inauguré ce jour lors d'une cérémonie officielle. Cet événement marque l'achèvement de tous les principaux systèmes du télescope géant ainsi que la transition formelle d'un projet en construction à un véritable observatoire. ALMA est le fruit d'un partenariat entre l'Europe, l'Amérique du Nord et l'Est Asiatique, en coopération avec la République du Chili.
