Delay lines tunnel

The VLTI delay lines: to combine interferometrically the light from various telescopes, one has to compensate the fact that the telescopes are not at the same distance to the observed star. This is done sending the light in this tunnel, where it bounces on mirrors mounted on trolleys, adjusting the position of the trolley with a precision of less than a micron. The North section of the tunnel is visible here.
