Assembling European antennas

The pedestals of the second and third European antennas in assembly at the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF), located at 2900m altitude on the road to the Chajnantor plateau. With its revolutionary design, composed initially of 66 high-precision antennas, ALMA is the most powerful submillimetre-wavelength radio telescope in the world. The ALMA Project is a truly global partnership between the scientific communities of East Asia, Europe and North America with Chile. ESO is the European partner in ALMA.
