ALMA Observatory seen from the sky

This view from a drone shows the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) on the Chajnantor plateau in the Chilean Andes. The 66 antennas of the observatory can be arranged in different configurations, where the distance between them can vary from 150 metres to 16 kilometres. ALMA is the most powerful telescope for observing the cool Universe and is operating since 2011.
