ESO Council December 2006
The ESO Council, representing over 10 countries, accounts for most of the astronomical investment capabilities of Europe. At this 2006 meeting, the Council green-lit a study into constructing the so-called European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), a colossus with a primary mirror some 39.3 metres in diameter, promising a revolution in ground-based astronomy.
