VLT interferometric tunnel

The Interferometric Tunnel was being prepared to receive the first VLTI Delay Lines. The carriages with retro-reflectors move on rails fixed on the metal supports visible here. The Delay Lines guide the light from the individual telescopes to the interferometric focus in the Interferometry Laboratory. The photo shows the southwest part of the tunnel, as seen from the entry to this laboratory.
