Across a salt lake near ALMA

The high Chajnantor plateau that houses the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile is surrounded by some stunning scenery. This captures the unusual Laguna Tebinquinche, unusual because of its salty composition and the extremely arid conditions. The 'lake' is often just a vast choppy salt flat, a glittering pale body in the middle of the red, dry desert. Half-way between the laguna and the Chajnantor plateau, the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF) is visible.
