Paranal observatory under moonlight *

A wide-angle view of Paranal, home of the Very Large Telescope array of four 8.2-m Unit Telescopes and four 1.8-m movable Auxiliary Telescopes. This image was taken in a moonlit night at 10 p.m. from the nearby peak, La Montura. The naked eye would have barely noticed the colour of the afterglow of the sun below the western horizon.
