Furry visitors at La Silla

This photo shows the ESO 3.6-metre telescope at La Silla, located at the outskirts of the Chilean Atacama Desert. Despite its dryness, the area is home to a number of different wildlife species, many of which occasionally approach the observatory. Imaged here is a herd of vicuña – relative of the llama which live in the high alpine areas of the Andes.
