GROND colour bands
The Sun shines between clouds on the sides of the mountain, next to the road leading to the La Silla observatory. The few trees constitute a tiny oasis called "El Beño", where ESO staff used to raise chicken and ducks, and meet to celebrate important events. One of these events was the inauguration of the GROND instrument (used at the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope) on La Silla in 2007, when the proud GROND team decided to leave a mark on the side of the mountain.
