Our galaxy revealed with the VLTI

This stunning image taken during the ESO Ultra HD Expedition shows the Milky Way alongside one of four of the 1.8-metre Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs). Together with the four Unit Telescopes (UTs) with main mirrors of 8.2m diameter, the telescopes can work together, to form a giant ‘interferometer’, the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer. The combination makes for the world's most advanced optical instrument to explore the depths of our Universe.
