Golden Milky Way hangs brightly over the VLT

Taken during the ESO Ultra HD Expedition, this image shows the Milky Way which hangs brightly over the site of the VLT at Cerro Paranal. The VLT has stimulated a golden age of astronomy with new discoveries among which include several notable scientific firsts, for example: tracking individual stars moving around the supermassive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way (eso0846).
