ANTU (UT1) and AT1

ANTU, the first Unit Telescope of the VLT is visible through the opened doors of its enclosure. This giant structure, with 35m wide and almost 40m height, dwarfs the 1.8m diameter mobile Auxiliary Telescope AT1 that is sitting just in front. Four similar ATs are installed on the Paranal platform, and can be moved on a system of railway tracks in order to optimize their configuration for interferometric observations. Photo taken in 2007.
