ESO Outreach Community Newsletter
August 2014

Dear Fellow Communicators,

We hope you are enjoying the summer months. So as to not keep you tied to your laptop screen for any longer than necessary in the holiday season, here are some short updates from us that may be relevant for your outreach and science communication activities:

  • Working with 3D? Check out our new 3D model archive. For now we have models of telescopes, an asteroid and a nebula around a star, but more will come.
  • Looking for outreach material in your language? Our Reaching New Heights in Astronomy brochures might do the job. We have printed them in 12 languages. You can read them online, or if you want to sell them in your local shop, we offer special prices for resellers — 1000 copies at 0.63 euros a piece.
  • The latest edition of CAPjournal is now out! Check it out in the announcement below. Don't forget that you can subscribe here to receive the journal via email or in print.
  • We have launched a small competition for the ESA Facebook page dedicated to Hubble, where we invite people to submit questions to our Hubblecast host, Dr J. If you have communities that would like to submit a question, feel free to spread the word. Dr J will answer in the next Hubblecast.
  • Ever wanted to present the best astronomical photos to your audience? We have you covered as far as ESO is concerned. Have a look at our updated Top 50 images from ESO presentation.
  • If you are in Munich this October, mark your calendar for the ESO Open House Day event, which will take place on the 11th. We are now in full preparation mode.

We wish you a wonderful summer and, as always, let's reach new heights in astronomy together,

Lars Lindberg Christensen (
Head, ESO education and Public Outreach Department (ePOD)
