Rules for Tweet Your Way to the VLT

  1. You, the participant, must tweet before 31 August 2012 at 23:59:59 CEST. Check your time zone here.
  2. Tweets must be written in an official language of an ESO Member State. The recommended format is “I’d visit @ESO because”, or the equivalent in your chosen language. Tweets MUST include “@ESO”.
  3. You may send more than one tweet from your account, but only one per day. Each one must be a self-contained entry, and identical tweets will not increase your chances of winning. Twitter will automatically filter you out if you send multiple tweets in a short time so your entry will never reach us.
  4. You may not create multiple Twitter accounts to send more tweets per day. Anyone found using multiple accounts to enter will be ineligible.
  5. Anyone may participate, but people working for ESO, and their immediate family and household, are not eligible to win.
  6. You must be over the age of 18, and able to travel to Chile 1–8 October 2012 (the dates are fixed). You must be legally allowed to travel alone.
  7. You must be able to obtain the required documentation (passport, visa) to enter Chile.
  8. You must follow @ESO on Twitter so that we can send you a direct private message via Twitter should you win.
  9. ESO will select the winners from among the valid entries. The winners will be contacted via a direct, private message on Twitter (using DM @yourusername; it is therefore critical you become a “follower” of ESO) with instructions on how to contact us via email. If contact is not established within 48 hours, the prize is forfeited and a new winner will be selected.
  10. The winner of the trip to Chile must be able to commit to participating in the trip at very short notice. If a final commitment cannot be obtained within 48 hours, the prize is forfeited, and a new winner will be selected.
  11. We will organise and bear the cost of the winner’s trip from his or her home to the Observatory and back. This includes travel, and accommodation in Santiago and at Paranal.
  12. By accepting the prize, the winner agrees that ESO can use his or her name and image in publications, on eso.org and elsewhere.
  13. The decisions of ESO on all matters related to the contest are final.
  14. ESO reserves the right to cancel or modify this contest or its terms at any time.
