The class room magnetograph

You need:
- Laser
- Compass needle
- Small mirror (or piece of glass)
Glue the mirror on top of the compass needle. Put the laser source in one end of the room and the compass with the mirror in the other end. Let the laser beam be reflected by the little mirror and mark the position on the wall under normal conditions. During auroral activity, the geomagnetic field is altered, and the reflected beam moves away from its normal position.
