We just want to send you a quick report on our preparations here at Wendelstein Observatory for the Astronomy On-Line observations to come.
Since Tuesday, Nov.12, we have been checking the CCD-camera MONICA as well as the ISDN-data link to our home Institute in Munich. Due to strong winds at the summit of Wendelstein we could open the dome just for a few hours. Time enough to verify, that all systems worked perfectly. Several times a day we are watching the latest news announced the Astronomy On-Line-Web pages. Twice we were contacted directly via email by groups who are preparing observing proposals for the CCD camera and who wanted additional infos concerning exposure times and filter specifications.
At the moment the weather does not look like getting photometric tonight, it's snowing cats and dogs since hours. The snow height now amounts to 50cm. Since no downhill transportation facilities are available we probably have to take our skies to return to the valley tomorrow.
On Monday, November 18th, at latest, we will return to the observatory. Thus we are prepared to perform immediately observing programms which will have been selected for our special CCD-instrumentation.
We are really looking forward to this observational challenge during the hot phase of the Astronomy On-Line project.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for photometric conditions.
By for now!
