Measuring the Distance to the Sun: Last Call

The following two nights will be decisive for our project: Due to a proposal of the Astronomische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Osnabrueck (see No. 9 of the List of Accepted Observation Programmes) the Observatory of La Silla will take pictures of Klio, Yerkes and Semiramis at the following times:

20.11. 0.00 and 1.00 UT,
21.11. 0.00 and 1.00 UT.

To be able to deduce the distance to the sun we will need additional pictures taken from widely seperated observatories at exactly the same (or, at least, near by) times.

Of course, we will try it by our own, but the weather forecast is bad. Therefore, we hope that as many groups as possible will try it, too!

Actual ephemeris data can be got from the full text of proposal

Please send your results to Osnabrueck or Koblenz:

backhaus@uni-koblenz.de ahaenel@physik.uni-osnabrueck.de and eheiser@os-net.de.

Kind regards,

Udo Backhaus
