| Title | Distance to asteroids |
| Proposing Group(s) | Astronomische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Osnabrueck |
Abstract: The distance to 3 asteroids shall be determined using simultaneous observations from widely separated observatories to measure their parallax. We have already taken several exposures of these asteroids and weather permitting, we will take CCD exposures at our observatory at particular times (e.g. 0h00 and 1:00 UT).
General Comments: Nice project which makes good use of the facilities available for Astronomy On-Line. It should also permit an assessment of the precission of the method by checking against the expected result.
Visibility: The three asteroids are well visible, also from La Silla in spite of their Northern declination.
Special Comments: To increase the astrometric precission, the Northern telescope should have a small pixel scale.
Expected time consumption (including overhead): About 30 minutes in total. Increasing the number of exposures will benefit the quality of the results.
Proposed facility:The Dutch telescope on La Silla is mandatory to provide a long enough baseline. For the Northern observations, the OHP 80 cm telescope and camera have similar specifications.
