The Haute-Provence Observatory is an optical observatory located in South-East France, offering mid-sized telescopes (1.93m, 1.52m, 1.20m, 0.80m) in continental Europe to both French and foreign astronomers. The coordinates are:
The OHP web server gives full information on the facilities and services offered.
For the Astronomy On-Line program the 80-cm telescope will be available for direct imaging with the 512x512 Tektronix CCD camera through broad-band filters. The characteristics of the CCD and filters available are discussed in the 80-cm OHP web page. The field of view as seen by the CCD is about 4 arc-min square, with a projected pixel size of about 0.5 arc-sec.
Haute-Provence benefits from weather which is milder than most of continental Europe. The 1970-1993 yearly average for clear weather at OHP is about 60 percent. The figure for November is slightly lower (55 percent) but late Autumn weather can be fine. Weather information is available on our server./
The observations for Astronomy On-Line will be carried out by Prof. Michel Dennefeld and his students from the Paris University. As the 80-cm dome is not (yet) connected to the OHP local network, it will only be reachable by:
The raw CCD images are stored on the acquisition computer as FITS files of about 1Mbyte but will be compressed for easier transfer. The will be available on the OHP FTP server as soon as possible after being acquired.
