Crni Vrh Observatory, Slovenia
Ready for Astronomy On-Line

Longitude: 14o 04' 25" East; Latitude: 45o 56' 48" North
Altitude 730m

The Crni Vrh Observatory is situated in a woodland region of Western Slovenia, about 50 km from the capital Ljubljana. This is a small observatory, equipped with medium size instruments. The weather conditionsare moderate with about 150 clear nights per year. Crni Vrh means Black Peak in our language.

Our observatory has a long tradition and a lot of experience in comet observations. The advantage of a small observatory is that it can quickly respond to news about discoveries of objects such as comets, novae and supernovae with immediate observations.

The observatory contributes to the IAU Circulars and other related publications regularly. Our instruments are strong enough to image almost any object down to magnitude 20.

Most of our research projects require spectroscopic observations which are mainly obtained at the Asiago Astrophysical Observatory. At the same time the follow-up photometric observations are secured at the Crni Vrh site.
