The Quadrant

This constellation which has the shape of a small trapezoid is related to the myth of Orphée. It represents its instrument posed beside him transformed into Swan. In this constellation, bordering in the west the Milky Way is Véga, one of three stars of the triangle of summer. It is located at 25 Al of the sun and is approximately 50 times more brilliant than it. (Mag 0,3) In August it is practically at the zenith. Véga comes from Arabic and means "Eagle falling", 12000 years ago the axis of rotation of Earth passed by Véga that was then the pole star.

In the constellation of the Quadrant one can observe with a small instrument a kind of ring, like a smoke ring. They are the remainders of the star M 57 which exploded approximately 20000 years ago and what one sees corresponds to the matter expelled by the star and which moves thus to 30 km/s.

Within nebula dwarf white is, star corpse which shines very slightly and which gradually will be transformed into dwarf brown.
