5. The Final Event in Lisbon

EXPO 98 in Lisbon
(Portugal)

The national winners of the `Newspaper' contests are invited to go to Lisbon (Portugal) where they will act as 'ambassadors' or representatives of all the other participants to the "Sea & Space" programme.

Thursday, August 27, 1998

  • Arrival of national winners
  • Evening event (first meeting of participants with each other and their hosts)
  • Presentation of the programme of events to participants/hosts
  • Friday, August 28, 1998

  • 1/2-day session at Planetarium with individual presentations of the winning projects, discussions, etc. Supplemented by talks/presentations given by scientists from ESA and ESO and local scientists
  • Opening of poster exhibition to the public
  • Visit to the Marine Museum
  • Common social event with participants of other European Week for Scientific and Technological Culture projects at the Oceanarium (on the EXPO Site)
  • Saturday, August 29, 1998

  • 1/2-day session at Planetarium (continued) with individual presentations, discussions, etc. Supplemented by talks/presentations given by scientists from ESA and ESO and local scientists
  • 1/2 day visit to EXPO '98
  • Sunday, August 30, 1998

  • 1/2-day session at Planetarium (continued) with individual presentations, discussions, etc. Supplemented by talks/presentations given by scientists from ESA and ESO and local scientists
  • Meeting with famous navigators and explorers including ESA astronauts.
  • Get-together of participants to formulate a "message" (e.g. what is important for young Europeans in connection with "Sea & Space").
  • Monday, August 31, 1998 (Common day for all EWSTC project participants)

  • Cross presentations
  • Meeting with experts and VIPS and announcement of the winners of the "Super Contest" with presentation to the media/public
  • World Youth event in the evening (with Mario Soares and other dignitaries)
  • Tuesday, September 1, 1998

  • Return travel of participants
