Artist's conception of the future ELT
The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is the European bet for the upcoming 40-metre class telescope. With this mastodon, which will be located in Chilean Andes and build and operated by ESO, European astronomers will have access to the biggest eye on the sky. The design for the ELT shown here is preliminary.
