The ESO 3.5-m New Technology Telescope inauguration ceremony took place on February 6, 1990. At two simultaneous events, at La Silla in Chile and at the ESO headquarters in Garching, Germany, high-level government representatives and well-known scientists met to celebrate the successful commissioning of the New Technology Telescope (NTT).
