Light Polarised by a Planet

Artist impression of light being polarised by a planets atmosphere.

Light is an electromagnetic wave. Usually the plane containing a light wave can be in any direction, but when it travels through certain materials one direction can be made more likely than others, and the light is said to be polarised.
