Interfaces between ATCS and STRAP

The STRAP sub-systems and their deployment

There are 3 related sub-systems: the APD sensor itself, the M6 tip-tilt mirror and the Aperture Field Diaphragm. The APD sensor and the M6 device are controlled by the STRAPVME board, whereas the field diaphragm, although integrated in the APD sensor housing, is controlled by ESO standard Motion Control boards (MAC4-INC + VME4SA-01).

The interfaces between the Control Software of the ATS and the STRAP sub-systems are implemented at LCU level on the Sensor LCU.

In the following sections, each sub-system will be reviewed for its software interface (the hardware interfaces are described in [AD 08]).

The expected functionalities/features as identified during the ATCS analysis will be listed in tables and are based on the preliminary design of the Control Software in the Use Cases [AD 09].

LCU Configuration

The Sensor LCU is hosting following VME boards (adapted from [AD 08]):

Board Supplier Number
CPU Motorola MVME 2604 (PowerPC, 333 MHz, 32/64MB) 1
Time Interface ESO TIM 1
Digital I/O Interface Acromag AVME 9481 1
STRAP VME control board Microgate 1
TCCD boards Inmos B016 (LIB + LAB) 1+1
28V power supply for TCCD Schroff 1
Motion Controller Maccon MAC4-INC 1
Servo Amplifier ESO VME4SA-01 1

The Sensor LCU is responsible for the control of:

Detailed interface information on the last three devices (in bold italic in the enumeration) is provided in the next sections.

The others devices are mentioned for completeness of the description.
