Since there is not enough space in the VCM room #072 to host all the devices of the prototype, it has been decided to locate all the ATS LCUs in the Optical Lab (Room #038). This has the advantage of offering comfortable space for installing the prototype hardware and to build a system as close as possible to the real AT in term of networking. The WS will be located in the VCM room and connected via ATM to the Switch. The LCUs will be connected to an Ethernet Hub in the Optical Lab. The Hub will be connected to the Switch via Ethernet. All Ethernet connections are realized with optical fibre links.
The prototype will be installed at the place where the delay lines prototype was, i.e. central part of the Opt.Lab. The DL prototype will be moved to the Adaptor-Rotator corner together with the PFSU.
It has been conviened with DBO that the STRAP optical bench will be available by mid-September, assumed they have completed their tests which are delayed due to repair delays. The bench will then be moved to the above mentioned place.
MDU orders the following LCU equipment:
JMM shall take care of ordering / building one telescope axis using the PHASE amplifier, a brushless motor and an encoder as on VCM.
MDU: For the prototype, 2 CPU Motorola MV167 25MHz,16MB for the Alt and Az LCUs should be used (no need to buy new ones since we have plenty of them now, that saves some 12000 DM).
FCA takes care of cabling the LAN (Hub + Ethernet fibres)
FCA checks also the Ethernet point-to-point connection from Room 072 (VCM)
and the Optical Lab (Room 038).
FCA will get 2 X-Terminals connected on the ESO Network in the Lab
GFI will order a HP G5000 workstation when available
For the beginning, we will start the prototyping activity on te30
