Available settings

Data are available for the UVES-MOS standard settings with 1x1 binning.

General format of ASCII table output

The output tables contain QC1 parameters (quality control level 1, meaning they have been measured by the pipeline in the course of the master calibration creation). Dates and MJD-OBS correspond to the creation date of the corresponding raw frame (or the first raw frame if a stack has been processed). There is always one line per CCD (B - blue, L - red lower, U - red upper).

The output tables of QC1 parameters are primarily designed for further use as computer input. Hence formatting has been restricted to a minimum. To turn them into a flat ASCII table,

- use "Save as" option of your browser
- give the output a name like e.g. "bias_2003.txt"
- use an editor to remove the HTML tags (all the stuff enclosed by <...>)
- edit (or remove) the header lines.

If the query returns "no data available", this will typically happen for a period when the corresponding QC1 parameters have not (yet) been evaluated (see table above).

Columns retrieved

All items

civil date - Civil date of night of measurement (e.g. 20030823 = August 23, 2003)

mjd_obs - MJD-OBS at beginnig of acquisition

lambda_central - central wavelength (in A) of the setting

slit_num - number of the slit used (1 or 2), corresponds to OBSPLATE header keyword

chip - CCD used (B - blue, U - red upper = MIT, L - red lower = EEV)

simcal - indicates whether the simultaneous calibrations fibre has been used (simcal=1) or not (simcal=0); only for 580 setting

fibre_id - number of the fibre

BIAS

QC1 parameters measured in: master_BIAS frames
parameters plotted: median_master, sigma (raw, master), struct (X,Y) for all standard settings

median_master - median value of master frame across whole frame

sigma_raw - read noise (raw frame), measured as rms in central 100x100 px window

sigma_master - read noise (master), measured as rms in central 100x100 px window

struct_row - structure in X direction (rms of Y-collapsed master)

struct_col - structure in Y direction (rms of X-collapsed master)

det_out1_conad - conversion factor electrons/ADU (=1/gain)

DISPERSION

QC1 parameters measured in: line tables

resid_avg - mean value of residuals fit - positions (in milli-angstroem); should be close to 0

resid_rms - rms scatter of residuals (in milli-angstroems)

nlin_tot - number of all lines found

nlin_res - number of lines found with residuals < 0.1 A

nlin_sel - number of lines selected for fit of dispersion relation

RESOLVING POWER

QC1 parameters measured in: line tables

resol_med - resolving power (measured as median value over all selected lines)

resol_rms - rms scatter of median value

FF STABILITY

QC1 parameters measured in: master fibre flats

fib_effic_rel - relative efficiency for each fibre, sum of all fibres is 1

fib_effic_abs - absolute efficiency for each fibre, defined as COUNTS/EXPTIME, where COUNTS is the total number of counts extracted from an FFLAT,ALL flatfield frame for the fibre and EXPTIME is the exposure time in seconds

GRATING STABILITY

QC1 parameters measured in: formatcheck frames
parameters plotted: X and Y shifts for the three UVES-MOS central wavelengths, X and Y shifts for two UVES-ECHELLE settings as comparison

mean_dx - X shifts between physical model and line positions found

mean_dy - Y shifts between physical model and line positions found

median_shftx - stability test: X shifts between reference frame and current frame

median_shfty - stability test: Y shifts between reference frame and current frame

nlin_all - number of all lines found

nlin_sel - number of lines selected for tests

ins_temp4_mean- temperature (degree Celsius)
