Welcome to the website of ESO Safety! These pages are intended to
- inform you about the safety situation at ESO, in particular the new
ESO Safety Policy (SAF-POL-ESO-00000-0002 issue 1 dated 29.06.2007)
- give you information what to do in case of emergency
- give contractors information about safety rules for work at ESO
- give you the names of the ESO Safety Officers at our various locations in
Europe and Chile - they are always at your disposal to discuss matters relating
to safety and security and are glad to receive your comments and suggestions
- direct you to various safety related documents at ESO and in the WWW

In Case of Emergency: Don't
Panic!
- Report the emergency:
Garching: Call
112 from any ESO telephone (no preceeding
"zero"!) but do NOT use a mobile phone if possible. If this is unavoidable,
call 089-28 91 41 00.
Paranal: Call 5555
La Silla: Call 4444
- What happened?
- Where did it happen?
- Injured persons? How many?
- Kind of injuries?
- Who is reporting?
- Give First Aid, get help
from a First Aider
- In case of fire: Leave the building, in Garching
go to the relevant ESO
Assembly Place.
- Try to extinguish the fire without endangering
yourself
