Description
 
NOTE: The release of the FITS files of the AXAF-field is restricted to persons affiliated to institutes in ESO member states. Therefore none of those files is directly accessible, but you have to register using the request form.  

This page provides links to all coadded frames, a set of JPEG/GIF color images; catalogs and documentation. Please read the copyright notice. For more information on the data please refer to the paper accompanying the data release. For comments or suggestions on the data release or the EIS web pages in general please use our feedback form

Please be aware that the FITS images are quite big. The SUSI frames are about 20 MB, the SOFI frames 5 MB.

Sep 10, 1999 - Update Release 
Note related to the previous release (10-Dec, 1998): Users had been warned of a possible problem in the color catalog due to the bad seeing in the I-band. Further tests since then revealed in fact a discrepancy between the astrometry of the optical and infra-red pass bands introducing errors in the photometry of the CHI2 catalogs. The initial astrometrical solution was indeed affected by the very small number of stars in the field. Recent observations on the same field with the WFI allowed us to adjust properly the astrometry. For the present release are provided 1) the images with the new astrometry 2) the related single pass band catalogs. Color catalogs will be available later.  

Warning: The infrared data given here were reduced using the Jitter program of the Eclipse image processing package. Recently, it has been reported that magnitudes computed using this program may be underestimated by about 0.15 mag at faint magnitudes. A re-analysis of these data will be carried out in the near future.
