We have requested narrow-band imaging to search for H-alpha and/or [OII] emitters at the redshift of the central RG and broad-band J and K imaging to select red galaxies at the same redshift. The target set aside for Science Verification is MRC0030-219. If there is an option to change this, we would first preference TX0200+015 which is ideal for using two narrow-band filters and hence would provide firm confirmation of any candidate H-alpha emitters by detecting the corresponding [OII] emission in the lower waveband filter. Our next preference would be MG0936+0503 as we aim to detect H-alpha in this field (rather than [OII] in the case of MRC0030). However, we understand that if the RAs clash with other approved programs this will not be possible. In any case we have listed all of the targets and exposure times below, together with our priority and we provide finding charts for all 4 objects just in case a change is approved. Target | RA(J2000) | Dec(J2000) | filters and exptimes | User priority | --------------|--------------|-------------|----------------------------------------------|---------------| TX0200+015 | 02 02 42.93 | +01 49 10.8 | J: 7200s, K: 2000s, H2: 5100s, NB1190: 1800s | 1 | MG0936+0503 | 09 36 10.1 | +05 03 49 | J: 7200s, K: 2000s, Br-gamma: 3900s | 2 | MRC0030-219 | 00 33 23.88 | -21 42 00.5 | J: 7200s, K: 2000s, NB1190: 1800s | 3 | MPJ0340-6507 | 03 40 44.6 | -65 07 12 | J: 7200s, K: 2000s, Br-gamma: 3900s | 4 | This is a simple imaging proposal and the instructions are the same for all 4 sources, barring the different filter combinations and corresponding exposure times listed above. The RG (not visible on finding charts from 2MASS but location is marked with a red circle) should be placed at the inside corner of one of the quadrants of HAWK-I (i.e. close to the centre of the pointing but away from the gap. It does not particularly matter which quadrant. Small dithers around this position maybe then be used (it is not necessary to cover the chip gap we will live with it, in order to obtain uniform depth across the available FoV) ." #Enter Text Not greater than 8000 (characters) WaiverRequest "No Waiver Request was submitted" #Enter Text Not greater than 800 (characters) CriticalObservingConstraint "none" #Enter Text Not greater than 8000 (characters) TimeCriticalAspects "none" #Enter Text Not greater than 8000 (characters) SpecialExecutionRequirements "none" #Enter Text Not greater than 8000 (characters) SpecialCalibrationInfo "We need a photometric standard star to calibrate the narrow-band image.
