README file for the NACO SV Planetary Candidates Programme Contact Person Name: Nuria Huelamo Contact Person E-mail Address: huelamo@mpe.mpg.de Contact Person Telephone Number: +49-89-300003396 Estimated Total Execution Time (EXCLUDING overheads):6 hours Programme Description ===================== This is an IMAGING program of the young star HD163296 which includes: L-band direct imaging, CORONOGRAPHIC H&K imaging POLARIMETRY H&K imaging The aim is to detect circumstellar matter and protoplanetary objects around the target. OB Information ============== List of Science OBs with Associated Finding Charts -------------------------------------------------- Total Number of Submitted Science OBs: 12 Total Number of Submitted Finding Charts: 2 Ther are two finding charts: HD163296fchart.ps : -corresponds to the TARGET -R image of a 2x2 arcmin region HD162563fchart.ps : -corresponds to the PSF calibration star that will be used in the Coronographic and L-band obs. -R image of a 2x2 arcmin region The OB Target is at the center of the finding chart. The OB list contains: HD163296_PSF_K = HD163296fchart.ps HD163296_Coro_K = HD163296fchart.ps HD162563_PSF_calib_K = HD162563fchart.ps HD162563_coro_calib_K = HD162563fchart.ps HD163296_PSF_H = HD163296fchart.ps HD163296_Coro_H = HD163296fchart.ps HD162563_PSF_calib_H = HD162563fchart.ps HD162563_coro_calib_H = HD162563fchart.ps HD163296L = HD163296fchart.ps HD162563L = HD162563fchart.ps HD163296_PolK = HD163296fchart.ps HD163296_PolH = HD163296fchart.ps NOTES FOR THE CORONOGRAPHIC OBSERVATIONS: 1. For the coronographic observations, this observing sequence must be applied: HD163296_PSF_K HD163296_Coro_K HD162563_PSF_calib_K HD162563_coro_calib_K HD163296_PSF_K HD163296_Coro_K HD163296_Coro_K HD163296_PSF_K HD162563_coro_calib_K HD162563_PSF_calib_K (the same for the H-band filter) 2. If the selected PSF calibration star resulted to be a binary, another star with similar spectral type and brigthness as the target must be selected, for example: HD161644, HD162010, HD162492. 3. In the H&Kdirect imaging observation of the two stars (target and PSF calibrator), the OBs are written to place the object in the four quadrants of the detector. The four positions are non symetric to correct later from possible reflections. NOTES FOR THE L-BAND OBS: The star must be initially placed at the center of the detector. The OBs are written so that the star is observed in the 4 quadrants of the detector. The four positions are non symetric to avoid the 'reflex' effect reported in the commisioning. NOTES FOR THE POLARIMETRIC OBS: 1. The offset positions have been taken of 5 arsec at both sides of the initial position. The right value to cover the whole field is still not specified in the last version of teh manual, so it can be replace with the exact value. 2. The polarimetric OBs contain short and long exposures. The long ones will certainly saturate teh star but, given that they will provide information about the sorroundings of teh star, it is not a problem for our purposes.
