E-ELT PROJECT ORGANISATION
The project within ESO
The E-ELT project is coordinated by ESO for its community. Within ESO's structure the E-ELT programme office is located in the Directorate of Programmes. The organigram below sketches the project structure. Blue boxes mark structures internal to ESO, green shows community committees and green/blue denotes mixed committees. More details about ESO's Governing Bodies can be found on the public pages.

The E-ELT Programme Office
The E-ELT programme office (dotted square in the organigram) coordinates the E-ELT activities within ESO. It is headed by the Principal Investigator and includes three project offices: one for the telescope, one for the instrumentation and one for the operational aspects. The programme office is further complemented by the Project System Engineer and the Project Scientist (in charge of the E-ELT Science Office).
The Principal Investigator coordinates the ESO and community efforts in the framework of the EU sponsored FP6 and FP7 activities. The Principal Investigator and the Project Scientist are advised by the Science Working Group.
The Instrument Project Office coordinates ten instrument studies.
