Friends of LISA V

The LISA (Library and Information Services in Astronomy) V conference will be hosted by the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Libraries in Cambridge, Massachusetts, June 18-21, 2006.

The Friends of LISA (FOL) Committee is once again raising money to assist astronomy librarians in resource-poor countries to attend this conference by collecting sufficient funds to cover their housing, a small per diem, and, in some cases, travel expenses.

The schedule for FOL is:

  • 1 November 2005: Call for applications for FOL grants. (Complete)

  • 1 December 2005: Deadline for applications for FOL grants. (Complete)

  • 15 December 2005: notification to applicants of grant money awarded/not awarded. (Complete)

The FOL Committee hopes that awarding grants in mid-December will allow as much time as possible for grantees to complete paperwork and obtain visas. We encourage all those receiving grants to start the visa application process immediately upon receiving the grant. If the Committee receives additional funds after grants are awarded, we will make additional grants.

FOL thanks its generous donors:

Individual donors:

  • Ellen Bouton
  • Gernot Burkhardt
  • Brenda Corbin
  • Uta Grothkopf
  • Dorothy McGarry
  • Evan Owens
  • Pamela Yorks

The FOL Committee: Ellen Bouton (National Radio Astronomy Observatory), Elizabeth Bryson (Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Corp.), Brenda Corbin (U.S. Naval Observatory), and Jessica Moy (National Optical Astronomy Observatory), with Ron Enders as treasurer.
