Oral title: An X-ray Baldwin effect for Compton-thick AGN Oral abstract: I present the first study of the Iwasawa-Taniguchi ('X-ray Baldwin') effect for a large sample of Compton- thick AGN (z=0-3.7, LBol=10^{41-47}erg/s). We find an anti-correlation between the Fe Ka equivalent width (EW) vs LBol at 98.2% confidence. This is unexpected because Compton-thick AGN are dominated by the Compton-scattered continuum at E<10 keV which should be coupled to the Fe line strength. Current X-ray spectral models do not account for this effect and could interpret a weak Fe line as indicative of low obscuration, in turn underestimating the accretion powers of heavily obscured AGN.
