Oral title: Studying local AGN with X-ray polarimetry Oral abstract: Our current X-ray view of local AGN is based on spectroscopic, imaging and timing analysis. In this talk I will discuss the importance of adding polarimetry in studying the geometry of the X-ray emitting corona, the distribution of circumnuclear matter, the magnetic field in jets and even the space-time close to the event horizon. I will also discuss the observational perspectives, with particular emphasis on IXPE, a NASA SMEX mission to be launched in 2021.
